The Alliance for Computers and Writing (ACW)

The ACW is "a national, non-profit organization committed to supporting teachers at all levels of instruction in their intelligent, theory-based use of computers in writing instruction." Included are lists of recommended reading, job postings, site reviews, and more. Registration is required.

AACE (Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education) />

AAHE (The American Association for Higher Education)

The AAHE is "an organization that promotes the changes higher education must make to ensure its effectiveness in a complex, interconnected world." The searchable database is a good way to reach online resources (mailing lists and links to discussion lists on assessment HE, among others). Their learning technology affiliate is the TLT Group, whose site can be reached from the AAHE. Some resources are only available to paid members.

ACUTA (The Association for Telecommunications Professionals in Higher Education)

ACUTA focuses on the implementation of telecommunications in higher education, including conference information, reviews of current technology and literature, and networking information for other organizations.

ADEC (American Distance Education Consortium)

Blackboard.com Blackboard.com is a company specializing in e-learning, with its own software platform and links to various learning resources, online communities, advertising the ability to run courses entirely from the Web.

Commonwealth of Learning

EDUCAUSE

EDUCAUSE is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to the transformation of higher education through technology in the teaching, learning, scholarship, research, and institutional forums. The site also features colloquia, conferences and many discussion groups as well as a formidable Information Resource Library.

EdWeb: Exploring Technology and School Reform

Andy Carvin's EdWeb is a self-proclaimed "hyperbook" which aims to "explore the worlds of educational reform and school technology." Case studies, issues of policy and development, and other aspects of instructional technology are addressed.

The Global Schoolhouse

The Global Schoolhouse is an online teaching and learning consortium offering information on Internet projects and collaborative efforts, discussion forums, communication tools, professional development resources, and more.

Institute for Distance Education

The Instructional Telecommunications Council (ITC)

In addition to offering various resources for educators and learners alike, ITC holds professional development meetings, sponsors research, and keeps its audience up to date on federal legislation pertinent to online teaching and learning.

Multi-User Science Education Network (MUSEnet)

MUSEnet is a site with a directory of various real-time virtual communities that support a collaborative approach to online teaching and learning.

The Web-based Education Commission

The WEC was established by American Congress "to develop specific policy recommendations geared toward maximizing the educational promise of the Internet for pre-K, elementary, middle, secondary, and postsecondary education learners." The Commission is also preparing a report for the President and Congress; more information can be found on the site.

Positive Pedagogy: Successful and Innovative Practices in Higher Education

Recently created as a special project of the Ontario winners of the 3M Teaching Awards, Positive Pedagogy is an online journal which "seeks to document successful and innovative teaching practices in Canadian universities and colleges." Emphasis is on the exchange of experiences and description of exemplary teaching strategies. Submission information can be found on the website.

Connie Menting, "Structuring the Learning Experience: Telecoaching in Practice"

Connie Menting's thesis proposes to examine "the importance of the role of the teacher as a telecoach in online learning processes." There is a clickable table of contents at the beginning of the page allowing easy access by chapter/topic.

Noriko Hara and Rob Kling, "Students' Distress with a Web-based Distance Education Course: An Ethnographic Study of Participants' Experiences"

The Centre for Academic and Adaptive Technology (CAAT) at the University of Toronto

The Centre for Knowledge Communication (CKC) at the University of Massachussets, Amherst

BellSouth Educational Technology Solutions: Education Gateway

BellSouth's Educational Gateway is a site providing information on devising an online curriculum for various grades as well as case studies on "electronic field trips" and a searchable database of resources for many subjects and grade levels.

Blue Web'n

Pacific Bell's Blue Web'n Searchable Database is a miniature search engine cataloguing "Blue Ribbon" learning sites on the Web. The site has a clickable table of subjects and available Web projects for each, and users may also add sites they believe qualify for inclusion in the database.

CELT Corporation

The CELT Corporation's mission is to provide both public and private educational organizations with professional technology services ranging from audits and financial planning to training, implementation, and other support.

Education World

Free-Ed

Free-Ed describes itself as "an online, virtual university where users from around the world can study, take courses, and take part in community activities at no cost." Free-Ed is a forum for web-based courses and e-texts available to everyone, but the site is also a place for educators to get ideas for using technology in teaching.
